Akko Patrick 5108 V5: A Full Keyboard or a Patrick Keycap Makeover?

A Patrick Star keyboard appeared in a recent community post, and it raises a useful question: do you want a complete themed keyboard, or do you mainly want Patrick on the board you already enjoy?

Those are different purchases. This is a guide to choosing between them, not a hands-on review of the Akko board.

What the Akko Patrick 5108 V5 is

Akko lists its Patrick 5108 V5 as a full-size mechanical keyboard with wired, 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth connections. The listed version uses Akko V3 Piano Pro switches and MOA-profile PBT dye-sublimated keycaps. Check the current regional listing for the exact layout and available configuration.

The appeal is the coordinated board: its case, keys and character design come together as one purchase. That makes sense if you need a keyboard as well as a new look. A full-size board also takes more desk space than a compact layout, so check where your mouse will sit before choosing it.

See Akko’s Patrick 5108 V5 listing for the current product details. Kawaii Keycaps does not list this exact keyboard in the catalogue checked for this article.

If you already like your keyboard

Changing keycaps lets you keep your current layout, switches and connection setup. It changes what you see and touch, but it does not add wireless connectivity or turn the board into an Akko 5108 V5.

Start with the part you actually want to change. If it is the full colour scheme, compare complete keycap sets. If it is one playful character beside your everyday keys, an accent key may be enough. A sculpted accent can also be taller than the surrounding caps, making its position worth considering.

A full keycap set

Choose this when you want the character theme across the board. Check the kit’s included keys, not only its total key count.

A single accent

Choose this when you like your current set. Confirm the mounting stem, key size and clearance around the intended position.

Three checks before a keycap makeover

  1. Mounting: compare the keycap stem with your switch. Low-profile boards and non-standard mounts need particular care; a similar-looking cross is not a universal fit guarantee.
  2. Layout coverage: check the spacebar, right Shift, Enter and bottom row. A kit that covers a standard full-size board may miss a compact board’s shorter keys or ISO Enter.
  3. Profile and position: compare the keycap shape and row requirements. A single accent need not match every row, but it should not obstruct nearby keys or feel awkward on a key you press constantly.

Patrick keycaps in our catalogue

For a Patrick touch on the keyboard you already own, start with an accent key: the Head-Bonked Patrick Star keycap, the Patrick Star Giggle keycap, the Whimsical Patrick Star keycap, the Square Patrick Star keycap or the SpongeBob & Patrick keycaps. Check each product’s options and compatibility details before ordering.

These are separate products. Sharing a character theme does not establish the same manufacturer, collaboration or licence. The Akko product description does not extend to Kawaii Keycaps’ own catalogue, and these keycaps are not connected with Akko or its Patrick 5108 V5 keyboard.

Which route fits your desk?

Choose the complete Akko board if you want its full-size layout and hardware along with the theme. Choose a keycap set if you want to keep a keyboard whose switches and layout already suit you. Choose an accent if you only want a small character detail. The useful decision is how much of your keyboard you want to change.
